“Nick & his apprentice came out to fix a faulty power socket. They kept me informed on when they would arrive, they fixed the problem no worries and even followed up to check I was happy with the job. From my initial call to reception to the completion of the job I couldn't be happier with their service. Thank You!”

Some faults can wait until morning. Some can’t

A safety switch that trips once, resets and stays on can usually wait for a daytime visit. A burning smell, a switchboard that’s warm to the touch, water where the power is, or a whole house with no supply can’t. This page is for the second kind.

We run after-hours call-outs for urgent faults across Frankston, the Mornington Peninsula and the south-east. We’re an after-hours service, not a 24/7 one, and we’d rather tell you that upfront than promise something we can’t deliver at 3am. When you ring, you get a straight answer about how soon someone can be there and what to do in the meantime.

If it’s urgent, ring 0434 402 561 rather than sending the form. If it can wait, the form above is the quickest way to get a daytime visit booked.

What counts as an electrical emergency

Six situations cover almost everything we’re called out to after hours. If yours is on this list, ring.

  • Burning smell or scorching

A hot-plastic or fishy smell near an outlet or the board, or browning around a socket. Turn the circuit off if you safely can and ring.

  • No power to the house

Check whether the neighbours have power first. If it’s only you and the main switch won’t hold, it’s a fault, not an outage.

  • A safety switch that won’t reset

Trips straight back off every time you try means the fault is still live on that circuit. Leave it off.

  • Shocks, tingles or sparks

A shock from an appliance or a tap, or sparking at a socket or switch, is a stop-everything situation.

  • Water and electricity

A leak into a light fitting, a flooded room with the power still on, or storm damage to the mains or meter box.

  • Exposed or damaged wiring

Cables cut, chewed or left hanging after building work, a fallen branch or a vehicle hitting the house.

Faults we’re called out to after hours

Four patterns account for most of the urgent calls we take.

  • Streamline electrician testing circuits at a switchboard after a loss of power

    Loss of power

The whole house, or half of it, with the main switch tripping or nothing happening at all.

    • Main switch and safety switches checked first
    • Faulty circuit isolated so the rest of the house comes back on
    • Supply problems identified and reported to the distributor
    • Any repair quoted before it starts
  • Close-up of circuit breakers and safety switches inside a switchboard

    Tripping that won’t stop

A safety switch that goes straight back off when you reset it, or keeps going off through the evening.

    • Leakage measured circuit by circuit
    • Faulty appliance or wet fitting found and isolated
    • Protection kept in place, never bypassed
    • Permanent fix booked if parts are needed
  • Double power point on a wall, the kind of outlet replaced after scorching

    Burning smells and heat damage

A scorched outlet, a warm switchboard, melted insulation behind a switch.

    • Circuit isolated and made safe on arrival
    • Terminations checked for heat damage
    • Damaged accessories replaced, not reused
    • Cause found, not just the damage repaired
  • Streamline electrician inspecting an outdoor meter box on a brick wall

    Storm and water damage

Leaks into fittings, a flooded floor with power on, or damage to the mains and meter box after wind or a fallen branch.

    • Affected circuits isolated
    • Wet fittings tested before anything goes back on
    • Mains and meter box damage made safe
    • Follow-up repairs scheduled for daylight

What to do while you wait

A few things that keep people safe between the phone call and the van arriving.

  • Turn off the affected circuit at the switchboard if you can reach it safely
  • If you smell burning or see smoke, turn off the main switch and get everyone outside
  • Don’t touch anything that has given you a shock or a tingle, and keep others away from it
  • Keep clear of water near anything electrical, and don’t stand in a flooded room with the power on
  • Unplug everything on a circuit that keeps tripping, then try the reset once
  • If there is a fire or someone is hurt, ring 000 before you ring us

None of this replaces a visit. It just keeps the situation from getting worse until we get there.

What’s in scope

Included

  • Attendance for urgent faults outside business hours
  • Isolation and make-safe of anything dangerous
  • Fault finding to locate the cause
  • Repairs we can complete on the spot
  • A plain explanation of what we found
  • A fixed price for any follow-up work

Not included

  • Street-wide outages, which only your electricity distributor can fix
  • Faults that can safely wait, which we’ll book for a daytime visit instead
  • Replacement appliances
  • Major works, which are made safe on the night and quoted for daylight

How the call-out runs

  1. Step 1: Ring us

Tell us what’s happening. If it can safely wait, we’ll say so and book a daytime visit instead.

  2. Step 2: Straight answer

How soon we can be there and what the call-out costs, before we leave.

  3. Step 3: Make safe

Anything dangerous is isolated first so the rest of the house can come back on.

  4. Step 4: Find the cause

Proper testing to locate the fault, not a reset and a hope.

  5. Step 5: Fix or book

Fixed on the spot where we can. Bigger jobs are made safe and quoted for daylight.

Compliance and sign-off

After-hours work is held to the same standard as daytime work. Prescribed repair work comes with a Certificate of Electrical Safety, anything dangerous is isolated rather than left live, and whatever we find is explained before any repair is authorised.

  • Certificate of Electrical Safety on prescribed repairs
  • Anything dangerous isolated and made safe on the night
  • Protection never bypassed just to get the power back on
  • RCD trip times verified after any board work
  • Findings explained before any repair is authorised
  • Fixed repair price agreed first

Why ring Streamline

  • Local, so we’re close

Based in Frankston North. Seaford, Carrum Downs, Langwarrin and Mount Eliza are minutes away, not an hour.

  • Honest about timing

After-hours, not 24/7. You get a real arrival time, not a promise we can’t keep.

  • Make safe first

The dangerous part is isolated before anything else, so the rest of the house can come back on.

  • Priced before we start

Call-out fee before we leave, repair price before we touch anything.

Emergency electrician for Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula

Streamline Electrical & Data is a small Frankston-based team working across the Peninsula and south-east Melbourne. Most of our week is planned work, but urgent faults don’t keep office hours, so we run after-hours call-outs for the ones that can’t wait.

Why we say after-hours rather than 24/7

Plenty of websites promise a 24-hour electrician and then don’t answer at 3am. We’d rather be straight: we take after-hours call-outs for urgent faults, and when you ring we tell you honestly whether we can get there tonight or first thing in the morning. If it’s the morning, we’ll tell you how to keep things safe until then.

Make safe first, then fix properly

An after-hours visit is about stopping the danger and getting the rest of the house working. Sometimes the full repair happens on the spot. Sometimes the right call is to isolate the faulty circuit, leave everything else on, and come back in daylight with the parts to do it properly. Either way you know the price before any repair starts.

When the fault is really the switchboard

Older boards with ceramic fuses and a single safety switch, or none at all, turn a small fault into a whole-house blackout because nothing can be isolated on its own. If that’s what we find, we’ll get you running for the night and talk about an upgrade in daylight, not on the doorstep at 10pm.

Storms, water and the mains

Wind and rain bring down branches, lift roof sheets and push water into fittings that were never meant to be wet. Damage to the mains or meter box is made safe first. If the supply itself is the problem, we’ll tell you, so you can report it to your electricity distributor rather than paying for a visit that can’t fix it.

Businesses after close

For shops, offices and warehouses an after-hours fault is often cheaper to deal with than a daytime shutdown. We work around trading hours for urgent faults and planned work alike.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a 24-hour electrician?
No, and we’d rather say so than let you find out at 3am. We run after-hours call-outs for urgent faults, and when you ring we tell you honestly how soon someone can be there. If it has to wait until morning, we’ll talk you through keeping it safe in the meantime.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
Burning smells or scorching, a shock or tingle from anything, sparking, water getting into fittings or a flooded room with the power on, a safety switch that won’t stay on, or a whole house without power when the neighbours have theirs. A single dead power point or a flickering light can usually wait for a daytime visit.
The whole street has no power. Should I ring you?
No. That’s an outage on the network, and only your electricity distributor can fix it. Across most of Frankston and the Peninsula that’s United Energy, and their faults line is the quickest way to find out what’s happening. If it’s only your house, ring us.
How much does an after-hours call-out cost?
After-hours rates are higher than a daytime visit, and we tell you the call-out fee over the phone before we leave. Any repair is priced separately and agreed before it starts, so there are no surprises on the invoice.
My safety switch keeps tripping. Can I just reset it?
Once. Unplug everything on that circuit first and try one reset. If it holds, plug things back in one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips straight back off, leave it off and ring us, because the fault is still live on that circuit.
I can smell burning but can’t see anything. What should I do?
Treat it as urgent. Turn off the main switch at the board if you can do so safely, keep everyone away from the area, and ring us. If you see smoke or flames, ring 000 first.
Do you do after-hours work for businesses?
Yes. For shops, offices and warehouses we handle urgent faults after close and schedule planned work around trading hours.
Which areas do you cover after hours?
Frankston and the suburbs around it first: Frankston North and South, Seaford, Carrum Downs, Langwarrin, Baxter and Mount Eliza, then the wider Mornington Peninsula and south-east. The further out you are, the more honest we’ll need to be about timing.
